PTI Make It Monday #64: Using Color Inspiration

This week Papertrey Ink has a tutorial and challenge hosted by Nichole. She has shown us how to use color for inspiration in our projects. If you would like to check it out for yourself, you can find all the info here.

I chose the color combination shown above to inspire this project:

I decided to make this small folder to hold two flower seed packets as a small gift to the Mothers in my MOPS group.  I really like the sentiment, as it is so fitting for a mom.

To make each folder, I started with a piece of tagboard and cut it down to 8"x11.25".  The tagboard is kind of flimsy, so I decided to reinforce it by doubling-up the sides.  Had I used PTI card stock, I would have skipped that step and just cut my card stock to 8"x7" (essentially eliminating the top-most and bottom-most edges to the score-lines).

I scored the tagboard at the 3.5", 8.5", and 10.5" marks vertically and at the 3.75" and 4.25" marks on the horizontal.

I stamped the front and inside panels as shown:

I secured the 3.5" top flap to the backside (inside of the project), then repeated with the 3/4" flap, so that the project ends up looking like this:

I'd planned on sewing the edges closed to create the folder pockets, but since I had 36 of these to make I opted to just use a fine line of glue instead.  I placed a fine line of glue at each edge as well as over the entire spine area on the 2" flap.  Hopefully you can see it in the photo:

Once secured, I used the Crop-o-dile to punch the two small holes:

I added the "Handmade Just For You" stamp on the backside of the folder as an after-thought:

Insert 2 packages of seeds:

Fish some bakers twine through the two holes and wrap it around the entire project 4 to 5 times and finish with a bow.

I love the sentiment in the Garden Variety II set and think it fits perfectly for a teacher-gift, or in my case, for Mothers of Pre-schoolers.  :)

Supplies (all PTI unless noted):
