PTI Make It Monday #59: Computer Generated Sentiments on Die Cuts

This week Papertrey Ink has a tutorial and challenge hosted by Erin. She has shown us how to create our own sentiments and personalized messages for our paper crafting projects. If you would like to check it out for yourself, you can find all the info here.

I loved Erin's idea of creating bookplates for someone special. What a great idea for our special teachers!! I went right to work experimenting with getting my text in the right space and sizing.

Here's where craft supply-hoarding comes in handy ... before going out to buy printable sticker sheets, I decided to check the spot (in my mess) where, IF I had some, it's where they'd be. I honestly don't remember buying them, but there they were - a brand spanking new pack of printable sticker sheets! :)

I printed out my personalized sentiments:

Then stamped them with Mat Stack 3, and images from Tag-Its #6:

Then, I die cut them out using Erin's method - so easy!

I really like how they turned out. When I decide on a single color scheme, I plan to make up a set to gift to the kids teachers. So fun! I hope they like them!

PTI March Blog Hop

This month's PTI Blog Hop challenge is to gleam inspiration from the above photo and use it to create a project!

I am over-the-moon about this challenge as I absolutely LOVE a beautiful, bright, cheerful yellow! It's my all-time favorite color and has been since I was a kid. I LOVE it!

I could not help myself. When I saw the inspiration photo, with those delicious huge aqua satin bows, I knew I had to make a card with one. I HAD too! Isn't it so soft and feminine? I LOVE it!

The background is "letterpressed" in white ink. The bow (I am so bow-challenged) only took about 30 minutes of arranging and fluffing. Then, I glued that baby down! :)

PTI March Blog Hop

This month's PTI Blog Hop challenge is to gleam inspiration from the above photo and use it to create a project!

I am over-the-moon about this challenge as I absolutely LOVE a beautiful, bright, cheerful yellow! It's my all-time favorite color and has been since I was a kid. I LOVE it!

For this challenge I decided to include some aqua color. I had previously made a zipper tag (here), and decided to make a modified version of it to include some cash for my niece's birthday gift.

I covered a portion of my sentiment with tape so that I could stamp one word over the other. This is one of my favorite stamping tricks - except - when I forget to pull the tape off before stamping! Nothing like a pretty stamped word with a colorful inky blob right next to it. :) So, instead of scrapping the whole thing, I decided to stamp on a die cut and hide the evidence!

To make space for the cash, I was careful to place the scor-tape around the perimeter of the tag and made sure I left it open where the "zipper" portion zips off.

Her birthday celebration is today, so hopefully the theory behind the design plays well with reality! :)

I had previously made a card for the PTI January Blog Hop (here). When I saw the inspiration photo for this month's blog hop, I knew I wanted to make a modified version of it in bright & cheery yellow.

So they say 3rd times a charm ... I'm not so sure. Each time I've made this card design, I've tweaked it just a bit to make it better. Just when I think I've got it, I look at the final result, and there's always a little something I'd like to do differently. Maybe if I keep trying, I'll end up with a pretty rainbow-spectrum of cards I can gift to someone special. :)

I found inspiration for the design of this project from Sarah Ortega's Quick and Easy Homemade Cards post that you can see here.

The large polka dot background is embossed in white, while the frame is coated with paper glaze for some added interest. I love the sentiment, "just thinking of you & wishing you well". All-in-all, I'm really happy with how this card turned out and can totally see making a rainbow-spectrum gift set for someone really special!

PTI Make It Monday #58- Graduated Backgrounds

This week Papertrey Ink has a tutorial and challenge hosted by Nichole. She has shown us two different ways to create a color wash for use in our projects. If you would like to check it out for yourself, you can find all the info here.

I started out using the re-inker graduated background technique. I'll admit, I had to pull out some good 'ole watercolor paints to help complete the color spectrum I was going for.

I started out trying to make a card to replicate a watercolor painting my 10 year old created while at art camp last summer. (Please excuse the vertical line of glass glare).

I didn't quite get the same effect. Go figure. :) The result did remind me of Batik fabric ... so I stamped over the top and shaded with some Copics to achieve this look:

I spritzed and impressed the card base, then added some hand-dyed scrunchy seam binding and a little bling for added visual interest.
