PTI MIM #50: Shaker Card challenge

Today I am posting my entry into the Papertrey Ink Make It Monday challenge #50: Shaker Cards.

FYI - I used all PTI supplies and tools, except for the brad and hole punch.

My card base is made with Hibuscus Burst card trimmed using the Edger's #1 die (through both front and back layers). The layer my shaker box sits on was made with Stampers Select white card stock which I also trimmed using the Edger's #1 die, followed by embossing with the Lace Impressions die (by adjusting the placement of the die, I was able to leave a small amount of the bottom edge plain). Now onto the shaker box. I die cut the Mat Stack 4 shape out of fun foam. I only had brown & green on hand, so I chose to use brown, although it really doesn't show at all in my project. I also die cut another Mat Stack 4 shape this time in Stampers Select white card stock. I cut a Mat Stack 4 Layerz die shape from Raspberry Fizz card stock, and layering it with my slightly smaller fun foam Mat Stack 4 die cut, ran both through at the same time to die cut the signature series butterfly die in the middle. Now, my cutting mats are in pretty bad shape, and the top side of my die cut came out all wrinkly looking, so I just went ahead and embossed it with the Polka Dot impressions plate (the photo doesn't show it well). I glued some acetate (that one of my stamps sets came on) to the back of my Raspberry Fizz die cut and then glued my white die cut to my white lace-embossed card stock. My thought was that I wanted my shaker box back to be plain and not embossed. While those were drying, I ran my fun foam through my Zyron machine on both the front and back sides. I placed my fun foam over my white die cut and filled it with punched paper hearts, micro beads, and some iridescent glitter. Then to finish, all I had to do was place my Raspberry Fizz die cut (with the acetate-covered butterfly opening) in place on top. I layered on a small piece of Raspberry Fizz card stock which I layered with a piece of Hibiscus Burst saddle-stitch ribbon onto the white Lace-embossed card stock. The finishing touch was a brad placed through the ribbon and card stock. The last step was to use some pop dots on the white Lace-embossed card stock to adhere it to the Hibiscus Burst card base.

PTI January Blog Hop Challenge

This month, PTI has challenged their fans to take a favorite project from 2011 and improve upon it for 2012. I took my last MIM challenge project, since I already knew I wanted to make the design again, but improve a few aspects. Below is a photo of the old card on the left and the new and improved design on the right.

Papertrey Ink - Make It Monday #48: Creating Backgrounds with Border Dies

For this week's MIM challenge, I choose to use the PTI XL Rickrack Border die. I cut out several borders in white card stock and arranged them on a white background. I used PTI's Rosie Posie stamp & die set to make 3 focal flowers and 2 leaves. I popped some of them up with foam for extra dimension and wrapped PTI Pure Poppy Bakers Twine around it. I added the ensemble to a card base of Hibiscus Burst layered with Pure Poppy PTI card stock.

I think if I were to make this design again, I would make the decorative base smaller so that the pink and red mats would be more prominent. Love the texture the rickrack border die made on the background though. Thanks for the inspiration, PTI!

Papertrey Ink - Make It Monday #47: 2011 A la Carte

Papertrey Ink - Make It Monday #31: Creating Backgrounds With Non-background Stamps

I feel like I am on a roll with 2 posts & challenge entries in less than a week! This week's PTI Make It Monday challenge involves stamping a background using stamps not intended for that purpose. For this challenge, I pulled out my Library Card stamp to create the background for my card. I stitched over the patterned paper & cardstock along the top, stamped my sentiment, and then popped my Copic-colored pencil up on foam adhesive for added dimension. The black stitching you see along the very top of the card is actually faux-stitching that I drew with a black marker. I also took a tip from Nichole Heady and stamped my background on both the card front as well as the card back.

Papertrey Ink - Make it Monday #30: Colored Pencils

Here I was shuffling around ideas on how to execute the next craft project for my MOPS group. We'll be making LunchBox Notes and I thought how neat it would be to use PTI's Fruit Fusion stamp sets and have fun coloring with Copic markers. The problem: Copic markers are expensive and out of our budget. Who would have guessed that PTI's Make it Monday challenge would have provided a fun & economical solution for me! Thanks, PTI!

Anywho - here's my take on the MIM challenge:

I used PTI's Frog Hop mini stamp and die sets. I colored a sky/water background in addition to the lilypad and froggie himself.
