PTI September Blog Hop - Decorated Pillowboxes

This month's PTI Blog Hop challenge is to gleam inspiration from the above photo and use it to have fun experimenting with fabric & felt.  I love all of the fun fabric goodness found in the inspiration photo!  If you would like to check things out for yourself, you can find out all about it here.

For this challenge I decided to make some pillow boxes using my new die from PTI.  I used Melissa Phillipsdie-cutting fabric technique to die cut my pillow boxes out of various fabrics:  burlap, muslin, cotton patterned, and even some minky dot!

The pillow boxes are perfectly sized to fit a gift card, and what's better than a gift card?  A gift card wrapped up with a pretty pin/clip embellishment that you can detach and wear!

My favorite of the lot has to be the minky dot.  It is so, so soft ... a perfect gift for a baby shower.  The satin flower with pearl and glass bead center is attached to a baby headband with a detachable pin/clip.

How cute would that flower look on a newborn's head?  Pack a BabiesRUs giftcard or something similar into the pillow box, and you've got a complete gift!

The cotton patterned pillow box has a detachable flower on a pin/clip made from PTI's awesome-quality felt in Pure Poppy.  There is an elastic hair band wrapped around the pillow box and the flower is clipped onto it.

I used the same technique with the burlap pillow box.  A flower trio on a detachable pin/clip which is clipped onto the elastic hair band.

A close-up of that gorgeous texture:

The muslin pillow box is decorated with a felt die cut from PTI's Holiday Button Bits set.  Pure Poppy buttons were hand sewn in place.  The sentiment from PTI's Happy Day set is stamped using Palette Noir ink.  I love the homespun feel the muslin gives that pillow box!

For this challenge I decided to use some satin fabric to dress-up a special anniversary card for my In-Laws.  I even cleared a path to the sewing machine for this one!  Lol!

The card base is clear embossed PTI Soft Stone, layered with patterned paper by DCWV.  I stacked multiple layers with foam adhesive for depth and dimension.  I used Melissa Phillips' die-cutting fabric technique to die cut a flourish and some rolled roses.  It's hard to tell in the photo, but the fabric really adds a special touch to the die cuts.  I stamped the beautiful sentiment from PTI's Happy Hydrangea stamp set in Ocean Tides ink and clear embossed it.  There is also a couple of clear embossed flowers from PTI's 2012 Anniversary set, Pretty Peonies framing the sentiment.  I added a trio of pearls, because what anniversary card would be complete without them, am I right?  :)

I added a liner stamped with a couple of flowers & leaves from the Pretty Peonies stamp set in Spring Moss & Aqua Mist, as well as a sentiment from Think Big Favorites #16 in Ocean Tides ink.

This card is totally different from my typical MO, but I'm quite pleased with it.  On a side note, I do love it when I have cards to make that will be hand-delivered, because then I can play around with big bulky embellishments, which is so much FUN!

PTI Make It Monday #83: Card Aisle Inspiration - Take 3

In this week's Make It Monday, Melissa Phillips shares a fantastic video showcasing a fun inspiration source, the card aisle at your local store!  If you would like to check it all out for yourself, you can find out about it here.

I usually avoid the card aisle at all cost, since I am, after all, a card maker ... but it was kind of neat to browse through the aisle with a different purpose in mind.  I was surprised to find that only a few cards caught my eye for this challenge.  I had to take another trip to the store to find some fresh inspiration.  Here is one card that caught my eye:

Turned out this card was super easy and fast!  My version uses a piece of patterned paper from one of my old DCWV paper stacks, and a stamped PTI Photo Finishers die cut.  I stamped the die cut with a floral from PTI's Floral Fusion series in Spring Rain & Spring Moss inks, with a sentiment from Just the Ticket in True Black ink.  I mounted the panel onto a Stamper's Select White card base, and called it done!

Since that card was so quick and easy, I decided to make another one, this time in portrait orientation.  The sentiment is from Damask Designs and stamped with Smokey Shadow ink.

PTI Make It Monday #83: Card Aisle Inspiration - Take 2

In this week's Make It Monday, Melissa Phillips shares a fantastic video showcasing a fun inspiration source, the card aisle at your local store!  If you would like to check it all out for yourself, you can find out about it here.

I usually avoid the card aisle at all cost, since I am, after all, a card maker ... but it was kind of neat to browse through the aisle with a different purpose in mind.  I was surprised to find that only a few cards caught my eye for this challenge.  Here is one of them:

For my version, I used a shimmer bluish/violet paper for the background to represent a dark sky, some shimmer green die cut grass for Mr. Bones to stand in, and "BOO" die cut out of shimmer orangish paper backed with PTI's black card stock.

I did a little surgery on Mr. Bones to get his arms to go up in the air to hold up the "O".  :)

The various layers are adhered with foam adhesive for some extra dimension.

PTI supplies include Black and Stampers Select White card stock, black ink, and the Mr. Bones stamp & die sets.

PTI Make It Monday #83: Card Aisle Inspiration

In this week's Make It Monday, Melissa Phillips shares a fantastic video showcasing a fun inspiration source, the card aisle at your local store!  If you would like to check it all out for yourself, you can find out about it here.

I usually avoid the card aisle at all cost, since I am, after all, a card maker ... but it was kind of neat to browse through it with a different purpose in mind.  I was a bit surprised to find that there weren't many cards that caught my eye for this challenge.  Here is one that did:

I used Smokey Shadow for a card base and embossed my background with a satin pearl white embossing powder.  The embossing has a neat sheen to it that is most easily seen under incandescent lights.

The inspiration card had a cool hologram button on it that said "Trick" at one angle and "Treat" at the other.  For my sentiment I used some die cut letters with stamping done using the Simple Alphabet stamp set.  The sentiment is placed on shimmer paper cut with PTI's Limitless Layers Oval dies.

PTI Make It Monday #82: Cutting Stamps

In this week's Make It Monday, Erin Lincoln shows us some tips to make cutting apart our clear stamps an easy, versatile, and safe way of adding more options to our stamping projects.  If you would like to check it out for yourself, you can find all the info here.

For this challenge, I was a bit of a chicken.  I've only cut apart one other stamp, and while it turned out just fine, I'm still a bit nervous over the permanence of cutting my stamps apart.  I played it semi-safe for this challenge by cutting apart one of the stamps that I happen to have a second of ... the beautiful A Big Thank You set given out as a surprise with purchase by PTI late last year.

I had intended on making a rainbow spectrum of color using the cut apart stamp, but ended up with this color variation instead.

Sorry for the bad lighting ... darn those late night projects!  :)  I put a pretty piece of PP behind my card to make the white card base stand out from the white background a bit better.

Supplies:  A Big Thank You stamp set, Royal Velvet, Plum Pudding, Winter Wisteria, Enchanted Evening, and Blueberry Sky inks.

PTI's Mr. Bones' Halloween Spook-Out!

PTI is having a celebration this week called Mr. Bones Halloween Spook-Out!
There's cute & spooky projects and prizes too.  If you would like to check it out for yourself, you can find out all about that here.

After having so much fun using Mr. Bones to make my nephew a cool birthday card, I decided to make a modified version.  This version is done in color, with an ink-sponged background, embossed spider webs, fuzzy spider body, subtle sentiment, and a fabric hobo sack (that perhaps holds Mr. Bones' loot of halloween candy).  :)

A close-up of that fuzzy spider and hobo sack:

A close-up of the subtle sentiment:

I went ahead and embossed the entire back of the card:

Supplies:  Toothpick, muslin fabric, bakers twine, black fluff, embossing powder, versamark & distress inks, fence die from MFT, grass die from Amuse.
Supplies from PTI:  Mr. Bones stamp set & dies, Smokey Shadow, Stampers Select White, Terracotta Tile, and Simply Chartreuse card stocks, Smokey Shadow ink.

Mr. Bones' Halloween Spook-Out!

In this week's Make It Monday, Ashley shows us tips for making any shape into a trendy garland to put on our projects If you would like to check it out for yourself, you can find all the info here.  I decided to combine Ashley's technique with PTI's Mr. Bones' Halloween Spook Out festivities.  You can find out all about that here.

It's family birthday season here, with 4 birthdays in just one month.  I decided to combine this challenge with a birthday card for my nephew.  The kids are of an age now where it's just easier to give cash or a gift card (plus they like that better than anything that'd I'd pick out for them), so I made one of my "cash" cards.  If you would like to read/see how they are put together, you can see that in this post.

Let me tell you - I had so much fun making this card.  I just LOVE the Mr. Bones stamp set with matching dies.  I'm not a big Halloween crafter, but I couldn't resist that adorable skeleton!  I concealed the cash underneath the zipper die cut, and made sure my decorative layers wouldn't interfere with the zipper ripping.  When it came to the banner, I knew I needed a small banner to fit in that space between Mr. Bones hands.  Then it hit me -  I could die cut a star and just snip off the tips to use for my banner.  (yeah, I'm still patting myself on the back for that one.  lol!)

I die cut the fence and then sponged on some grey ink to bring out the woodgrain.  The "HB2U" sentiment and pumpkin face (or Mr. Punk, as Heather would call him.  hehe :) were heat embossed in white.  The banner is attached to a piece of black bakers twine.  I've got the various layers put on in varying heights with foam dimensionals.

I have to admit, I was tickled with the results and found I could only justify giving this cutie away if I were to make another one for me to keep!  :)

Fence die by MFT, star die for the banner by Spellbinders, grass die by Amuse, bakers twine by the Twinery.  All other supplies by PTI.

PTI Make It Monday #80: Making Garland

In this week's Make It Monday, Ashley shows us tips for making any shape into a trendy garland to put on our projects If you would like to check it out for yourself, you can find all the info here.

For this challenge, I had the idea to make a mini-garland with some teeny die cut hearts and crochet thread, and then just wrap it around a card panel like you would do with regular twine.

I pulled out some various colored die cut hearts I'd save from using the Tiny Tags die and glued them onto plain white crochet thread.  I wrapped the resulting garland around a card stock panel and mounted it with foam dimensionals onto a Berry Sorbet card base.  I'd originally planned to add a sentiment, but decided to leave the front of the card clean & simple and stamp a sentiment on the inside instead.  :)

Outside of the crochet thread, all supplies are from PTI.
